# Install OG LEGO games in Bottles on CachyOS

After [installing Manic Miners](https://dees.co/install-manic-miners-in-lutris/), I wanted to explore some of the era-defining classic PC LEGO titles from the late 90s to early 2000s. This guide covers LEGO Rock Raiders, LEGO Racers, LEGOLAND, and LEGO Island, all of which now run reliably. I also attempted LEGO Stunt Rally but could not get it to work, so it is not covered here.

**Tested environment:**

- OS: CachyOS 7.2.6-1
- Bottles: 67.3
- Wine runner: soda 11.0-10

## Install Prerequisites

1. Open your terminal and run:

```bash
sudo pacman -S bchunk dolphin-plugins flatpak
flatpak install flathub com.usebottles.bottles
flatpak install flathub com.github.tchx84.Flatseal
```

## Fix Flatpak Permissions

1. Open **Flatseal**
2. Select **Bottles** from the sidebar
3. Scroll down to the **Filesystem** section
4. Add `/run/media:ro` to **Other files**

**Note:** If **Bottles** is open while making the change, it must be restarted

## Create Your Bottle

1. Open **Bottles**
2. Click **Add**, then **Create a Bottle**
3. Name it **LEGO**, select **Gaming** as the purpose, click **Create**
4. Click **Close**

## Configure Your Bottle

These settings apply to every game installed in this bottle, so you only need to set them once.

### Set DLL Overrides

1. In **Bottles**, navigate to **Options > Settings**
2. Click **Compatibility > DLL Overrides**
3. Add each of the following, clicking **Apply** after each:
  1. d3drm.dll
  2. D3D8.dll
  3. D3D9.dll
  4. D3DImm.dll
  5. DDraw.dll

### Configure D7VK, DXVK and VKD3D

1. In **Bottles**, navigate to **Options > Settings**
2. Under **Performance**, disable **D7VK**
3. Ensure **DXVK** and **VKD3D** are enabled
4. Click **Back**

dgVoodoo2 outputs Direct3D 11, which is handled by DXVK. If DXVK and VKD3D are disabled, dgVoodoo2 falls back to WineD3D and OpenGL, which caused LEGO Rock Raiders to silently fail when launched from Bottles. With DXVK enabled, dgVoodoo2 runs through Vulkan and the game launches without issue.

D7VK must be disabled to run LEGO Island.

1. In **Dolphin**, right-click **LEGO-Rock-Raiders\_Win\_EN\_ISO-Version.zip**, click **Extract > Extract here**
2. Right-click **LEGO Rock Raiders**, click **Open Terminal Here**
3. Run: `bchunk ROCKRAIDERS.bin ROCKRAIDERS.cue ROCKRAIDERS.iso`
4. In **Dolphin**, right-click **ROCKRAIDERS.iso01.iso**, click **Mount**
5. In your **LEGO** bottle, click **Quick actions > Run Executable...**
6. Select **LEGO-Rock-Raiders-Alternate-Installer-1.1.1.exe**, click **Run**
7. Follow the installer:
  1. Select **I accept the agreement**, click **Next**
  2. Click **Next**
  3. Click **Next**
  4. Click **Next**
  5. Click **Install**
  6. Uncheck **Launch LEGO Rock Raiders**, click **Finish**
8. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **LegoRR**, click **Rename**
9. Type **LEGO Rock Raiders**, click **Save**

### Install dgVoodoo2 and update Direct3D Retained Mode

1. In **Bottles**, click **Quick actions > Browse**
2. Browse to **Program Files (x86)/LEGO Media/Games/LEGO Rock Raiders**
3. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/MS/x86** contents to **LEGO Rock Raiders**
4. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodoo.conf** to **LEGO Rock Raiders**
5. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodooCpl.exe** to **LEGO Rock Raiders**
6. Right-click **d3drm.dll**, click **Rename**
7. Type **d3drm.dll.bak**, press **Enter**, click **Rename**
8. Extract **D3DRM.zip/d3drm.dll** to **LEGO Rock Raiders**

The DLL overrides were configured earlier in the bottle configuration section.

### Add Masterpiece Executable, Music Fix, and Music Collection

1. Right-click **LegoRR.exe**, click **Rename**
2. Type **LegoRR.exe.bak**, press **Enter**, click **Rename**
3. Right-click **LegoRR.icd**, click **Rename**
4. Type **LegoRR.icd.bak**, press **Enter**, click **Rename**
5. Extract **LRR\_MasterPieceExecutable.zip** to **LEGO Rock Raiders**
6. Extract **LRR\_Music\_Fix.zip** to **LEGO Rock Raiders**
7. Extract **LRR\_Music\_Collection\_ogg.zip** to **LEGO Rock Raiders/Music**
8. Overwrite existing files

### Verification

1. Launch **LEGO Rock Raiders**
2. Confirm a small dgVoodoo2 watermark is visible in the corner of the screen
3. Once confirmed, open **dgVoodooCpl.exe** and disable the watermark

## Install LEGO Racers

1. In **Dolphin**, right-click **LEGO-Racers\_Win\_EN\_ISO-Version.zip**, click **Extract > Extract here**
2. In **Dolphin**, right-click **LegoRacers.iso**, click **Mount**
3. In your **LEGO** bottle, click **Quick actions > Run Executable...**
4. Select **LEGO-Racers-Alternate-Installer-1.0.2.exe**, click **Run**
5. Follow the installer:
  1. Click **Next**
  2. Select **I accept the agreement**, click **Next**
  3. Click **Next**
  4. Select **Full Installation (With Movies)**, click **Next**
  5. Click **Next**
  6. Click **Next**
  7. Click **Install**
  8. Uncheck **Launch LEGO Racers**, click **Finish**
6. When it finishes, confirm **LEGORacers** appears in your bottle's program list
7. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **LEGORacers**, click **Rename**
8. Type **LEGO Racers**, click **Save**

### Install dgVoodoo2

1. In **Bottles**, click **Quick actions > Browse**
2. Browse to **Program Files (x86)/LEGO Media/Games/LEGO Racers**
3. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/MS/x86** contents to **LEGO Racers**
4. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodoo.conf** to **LEGO Racers**
5. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodooCpl.exe** to **LEGO Racers**

The DLL overrides were configured earlier in the bottle configuration section.

### Fix the main menu crash

The game plays its intro video fine, then disappears at the main menu while the music keeps playing. The splash video transition crashes the game. The fix is a launch argument that skips the videos entirely.

1. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **LEGO Racers**, click **Change Launch Options...**
2. Add `-novideo` to the **Command Arguments** field
3. Click **Save**, then launch the game
4. Confirm the main menu appears

### Verification

1. Launch **LEGO Racers**
2. Confirm the dgVoodoo2 watermark is visible in the corner of the screen
3. Once confirmed, open **dgVoodooCpl.exe** and disable the watermark

## Install LEGOLAND

1. In **Dolphin**, right-click **LEGOLAND\_Win\_EN\_ISO-Version.zip**, click **Extract > Extract here**
2. In **Dolphin**, right-click **LEGOLAND.iso**, click **Mount**
3. In your **LEGO** bottle, click **Quick actions > Run Executable...**
4. Select **LEGO.LEGOLAND.Alternate.Installer.1.0.exe**, click **Run**
5. Follow the installer:
  1. Click **Next**
  2. Select **I accept the agreement**, click **Next**
  3. Click **Next**
  4. Click **Next**
  5. Click **Next**
  6. Click **Install**
  7. Uncheck **Launch LEGO LEGOLAND**, click **Finish**
6. When it finishes, confirm **legoland** appears in your bottle's program list
7. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **legoland**, click **Rename**
8. Type **LEGOLAND**, click **Save**

**Note:** This game may require the ISO to be mounted or a [No-CD crack](https://gamecopyworld.com/games/pc%5Flegoland.shtml?ref=dees.co)

### Install dgVoodoo2

1. In **Bottles**, click **Quick actions > Browse**
2. Browse to **Program Files (x86)/LEGO Media/Games/LEGOLAND**
3. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/MS/x86** contents to **LEGOLAND**
4. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodoo.conf** to **LEGOLAND**
5. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodooCpl.exe** to **LEGOLAND**

The DLL overrides were configured earlier in the bottle configuration section.

### Install INDEO video codec

1. In **Dolphin**, right-click **INDEO\_IV50\_Codec.zip**, click **Extract > Extract here**
2. In your **LEGO** bottle, click **Quick actions > Run Executable...**
3. Select **iv5setup.exe**, click **Run**
4. Follow the installer:
  1. Click **Next**
  2. Click **Next**
  3. Click **Yes**
  4. Click **Next**
  5. Select **Custom**, click **Next**
  6. Deselect **Indeo Video 5 Web Browser Plugin**, click **Next**
  7. Click **Next**
  8. If you get a **Self Registration Failure** popup, click **OK** (safe to ignore, the core codec still installs correctly)
  9. Click **Finish**
  10. If a file browser opens, close it

### Verification

1. Launch **LEGOLAND**
2. Confirm the dgVoodoo2 watermark is visible in the corner of the screen
3. Once confirmed, open **dgVoodooCpl.exe** and disable the watermark

3. In your **LEGO** bottle, click **Quick actions > Run Executable...**
4. Select **LEGO.Island.Alternate.Installer.1.1.0.exe**, click **Run**
5. Follow the installer:
  1. Click **Next**
  2. Select **I accept the agreement**, click **Next**
  3. Click **Next**
  4. Select **Full Installation (Does Not Require CD)**, click **Next**
  5. Click **Next**
  6. Click **Next**
  7. Click **Install**
  8. Click **Finish**
6. When it finishes, confirm **LEGOISLE** appears in your bottle's program list
7. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **LEGOISLE**, click **Rename**
8. Type **LEGO Island**, click **Save**
9. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **CONFIG**, click **Rename**
10. Type **Configure LEGO Island**, click **Save**
11. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **Msrun**, click **Hide Program**

### Install dgVoodoo2 and update Direct3D Retained Mode

1. In **Bottles**, click **Quick actions > Browse**
2. Browse to **Program Files (x86)/LEGO Island**
3. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/MS/x86** contents to **LEGO Island**
4. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodoo.conf** to **LEGO Island**
5. Extract **dgVoodoo2\_79\_3.zip/dgVoodooCpl.exe** to **LEGO Island**
6. Right-click **d3drm.dll**, click **Rename**
7. Type **d3drm.dll.bak**, press **Enter**, click **Rename**
8. Extract **D3DRM.zip/d3drm.dll** to **LEGO Island**

The DLL overrides were configured earlier in the bottle configuration section.

### Add LEGO Island Rebuilder

1. In **Bottles**, click **Quick actions > Browse**
2. Browse to **Program Files (x86)/LEGO Island**
3. Copy **Rebuilder.exe** to **LEGO Island**
4. In **Bottles**, click **Programs > Add Shortcuts...**
5. Select **drive\_c/Program Files (x86)/LEGO Island/Rebuilder.exe**, click **Add**
6. In **Bottles**, click the **three-dot menu** next to **Rebuilder**, click **Rename**
7. Type **LEGO Island Rebuilder**, click **Save**

### Recommended Rebuilder settings

1. Launch **LEGO Island Rebuilder** from your bottle's program list
2. Set the following patches, then click **Run** to start the game

The **`-r` / `--run` command line** can be added to the **LEGO Island Rebuilder** program entry in Bottles to skip the Rebuilder UI and launch directly with saved settings.

### Verification

1. Launch **LEGO Island**
2. Confirm the dgVoodoo2 watermark is visible in the corner of the screen
3. Once confirmed, open **dgVoodooCpl.exe** and disable the watermark

## Troubleshooting
